Questions to ask yourself while designing

Here is a list of questions I have found useful to keep in the back of my mind when working on a design.  I will keep updating this list as time goes on.

• can I eliminate any parts?
• can I combine any parts?
• if I had to make this work right now, with the materials on hand, how would I do it?
• can all parts be made in the least possible operations?
• if there are molded or cast parts have I included as many features in them as possible?
• is everything constrained / located as simply as possible?
• do all fasteners have some kind of locking feature?
• have I used common fasteners whenever possible?
